The Definition of a Saint
The Catholic Church believes that saints are ordinary and typical human beings who made it into heaven. In the broader sense, everyone who’s now in heaven is technically a saint. Saints are human beings who lived holy lives in obedience to God’s will and are now in heaven for eternity. The classification or title of saint, however, is a spiritual pronouncement that the faithful can be morally certain that this particular person is indeed in heaven.
Catholic devotion to the saints is nothing more than respect and admiration for the memory of the deceased heroes of the Church. Just as a society honors its dead who helped make the world a better place while they were alive, Catholics honor saints.

Saint Michael the Archangel
Feast Day: September 29th
Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
|
Saint Michael the Archangel isn't a saint, but rather he is an angel, and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank. St. Michael has four main responsibilities or offices, as we know from scripture and Christian tradition.
The first is to combat Satan. The second is to escort the faithful to heaven at their hour of death. The third is to be a champion of all Christians, and the Church itself. And the fourth is to call men from life on Earth to their heavenly judgment.

Saint JeromeFeast Day: September 30th
Patron Saint of Students
Prayer to St. Jerome
Master of unworldliness and founder of monasteries, you had a deep love for God's inspired Word and were a most careful translator of the Sacred Scriptures. Your single-mindness in seeking God's glory is a perfect model for all . Inspire them with respect for the sacred text as well as for Tradition and the Church's Magisterium. Help them to impart to all the true meaning of the Word of God. Amen. |
Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, authority and power, before all ages, now and for ever. Amen.
Saint HedwigFeast Day: October 16th
Protector of the Poor
Prayer to St. Hedwig
O St Hedwig, in this world you rejected the honors of the Court, its pomp, luxury and pleasures, and went to be with the poor to help them in the destitution and misery of life. There in Heaven, cast a kind look on us poor mortals, and obtain for us the grace (mention your request) and that of living in the peace and friendship of God. Amen.
V. Pray for us, St Hedwig! R. So that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray: O God, You taught Blessed Hedwig to prefer, with all her heart, the humble road of Your Cross to the pomp of the world. Through her merits and example, grant that we may learn to reject the ephemeral delights of the world, and, embracing Your Cross, may we overcome the adversities to come. You who live and reign, One God, forever and ever. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be …if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.” (Ps 62:10b) |
Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, authority and power, before all ages, now and for ever. Amen.
Saint StephenFeast Day: December 26th
First Martyr
Prayer to St. Stephen
O Great St. Stephen,
the scriptures tell us that your face was like an angel’s as you witnessed to the truth of Christ. Please ask the Most Holy Trinity to fill my soul and the souls of all my brothers and sisters throughout the world with a deep hunger for the truth that comes from the Heart of Jesus, and also with the loving courage to embrace and profess the truth even amid difficulties, confusion, and persecution. May the serenity and peace which were yours at the hour of your stoning be ours as well as we wait in hope for the coming of the Lord Jesus who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen. |
Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, authority and power, before all ages, now and for ever. Amen.
